I don’t know about you, but I am always drawn towards new skincare whatever realm it may be in. From innovative ingredients to unique packaging, no matter what the product, I am keen to try something new.

Last month when scrolling through Instagram I was met with the customary targeted ads (which, I have to just say, do make me buy the product advertised). As I scrolled further on, a new ad popped up by this brand called Skin + Me, which, coincidentally, is branded in the same colourway as we are, here, at Fashion Killer. If that wasn’t incentive enough, 5 minutes later after clicking the add I had ordered my free first trial of the product.

Now, let us talk about Skin + Me as a company. Skin + Me launched just under 2 years ago, however, only this year it has just come to fruition. What it is, is a personalized online prescription dermatology service which is actually the second one of its type. The first being Dermatica. Their unique selling point is helping to fulfil the demand both in the UK and internationally for dermatological help. As we all know, the UK is considerably thin on the ground when it comes to dermatology services. We either find derms privately or have to go through the NHS, there is just nothing in between.

Skin + Me innovative service includes a personalised, prescription-strength topical cream — tailored to an individual which, I have to say, is encased in the most efficient and practical packaging ever. More on this later. Through a series of detailed questions/answers and uploaded photos of the patient’s face, Skin + Me can tailor a specific concoction of ingredients for that person. Every formulation is made in their lab within 2 hours and despatched the next day, and then ongoing each month or however frequently you would like to receive a top-up. And the best part? The first month is free!

As well as prescribing products they also help with providing a supportive service with continual support and guidance from the dermatologists who are matched to help you. What is great about this service is that they regularly check-in with your progress. You can tailor your treatment plan to suit you by sending in photos and deciphering whether to reduce ingredient dosages or increase them.

After filling out the questionnaire, submitting photos of my face (front & side profiles) and outlining my priority skin goal which was to say goodbye to dark spots and pigmentation, I was then paired with a dermatologist called Marina Fakhouri who prescribed me with a tester 12ml treatment containing tretinoin 0.006%, niacinamide 4% & azelaic acid 4%. I was quite excited to be trying tretinoin for the first time because, for anyone who doesn’t know about retinoids/retinol in skincare, it is a far more active and effective member of the retinoid family and is only available through prescription treatments.

I think if we were to compare Dermatica (the other skincare prescription service) to Skin + Me, I would choose the latter. As I mentioned briefly above, the packaging of the Skin + Me treatment is so much savvier and more practical to use. For example, the component of the product is a daily doser meaning that you simply twist the tube until you hear a click and out comes your perfectly allotted dosage for that day. As well as this, the component has a scale printed onto it to show you how much you are using/ how much product you have left. It’s ingenious.

After using my treatment every night for about a week now, I have to say I was extremely impressed. I think for one the azelaic acid has helped tremendously with exfoliating and helping my skin expel pigmentation. The tretinoin has been a real treat as it has also helped repair the sun-damaged skin cells, thus giving my skin a nice glow.

All in all, I would have to say Skin + Me works wonders when your skin is feeling aggravated from overdoing it with multiple products. It is recommended that you simply just cleanse your skin, follow on with your Skin + Me treatment and then moisturise. I find that this simplicity is key to targeting and fulfilling your specific skin goals.

Skin + Me is £19.99 per month, your first month is free.
