When it comes to my skincare routine, the one step I take most seriously is serums. Serums are a mixture of highly concentrated performance (active) ingredients which can penetrate deep inside your skin, deeper than any other product used within your routine. For this reason, I am accustomed to spending a bit more on them as I know I want the finest quality ingredients to reach the core of my skin.

Niacinamide is one of the must-have skincare ingredients on the beauty market at the moment, and today I will be explaining why it is just so coveted:

What Is Niacinamide?

Vitamin B3, more commonly recognised as niacinamide, is hailed as the ‘all-rounder’ amongst skintellectuals. It is the vitamin which works hand-in-hand with the natural substances found within your skin to help blemish-bust, diminishing large pores and evening out skin tone, protecting it from the environment and reducing hyperpigmentation — to name a few benefits.

Who Can Use Niacinamide?

Due to its inclusive nature, anyone can use it with any skin type. However, this being said, it is more favourable to those with oilier/ blemish-prone complexions as it works with your sebaceous glands by normalising the amount of sebum produced, thus diminishing oiliness dramatically. As well as this, it has various powerful anti-inflammatory benefits which help in improving spots and blemishes.

How Can I Use Niacinamide?

I use niacinamide every morning and every night, normally layered on top of other clear serums such as hyaluronic acid or salicylic acid or just on its own. As it is a strengthening, barrier-building serum, you can also use it alongside a retinoid/retinol to help reduce the risk of irritation that might usually be caused.

My Must-Have Niacinamide Serum: The Ordinary 10% Niacinamide + Zinc 1%

This niacinamide is one I constantly come back to. It is specifically formulated as oil-free, meaning it works wonders for those who have oily/blemish-prone skin. The combination of niacinamide and zinc aids in the repair of damaged skin and collagen production. It not only balances your oils but also your bank balance.
