The Carbon Theory Cleansing Bar has been hailed as a ‘miracle’ working soap for those of us suffering from acne and excessively oily skin. It has garnered a lot of attention all across social media over the past couple of years owing to its abilities of supposedly diminishing acne and spots as well as reducing oil found on our skin, but does it live up to the hype?

The cleansing bar has been created by a new budget British beauty brand called Carbon Theory who believe in utilising powerful and natural ingredients like charcoal and tea tree oil to aid with skin transformation. They are a niche vegan and cruelty-free brand with 9 products in their charcoal & tea tree range so far (including a face scrub, mud mask, toner and moisturiser). All products retail for under £20 and are available in a wide range of online retailers including their website: https://carbontheory.com

The Carbon Theory Cleansing Bar is simple yet effective. It is lab formulated which has been dermatologically proven to prevent breakouts and maintain your skin’s hydration and balance, ultimately resulting in better overall skin health. The cleansing bar contains just 13 ingredients including 3 key active ingredients which are: activated charcoal, shea butter and tea tree oil.

Activated charcoal is used to draw out dirt and impurities from the skin as well as unclog blocked pores for those of us with a spottier skin.

The tea tree oil acts as a natural antiseptic reducing inflammation of spots as well as reducing pores altogether. It is also highly purifying and helps kill any bacteria on the skin.

Lastly, shea butter is used to provide moisture to the skin without blocking any pores (non-comedogenic). It is vital for repairing the skin’s natural barrier through anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.

The bar is super easy to use. When combined with water, a lather is formed which you apply onto your skin like a normal cleanser. I have found that focusing in on the parts where I am most oily and spotty when massaging the lather works best. It is recommended that you leave the cleanser on for 30 seconds to 1 minute to ensure that the active ingredients have penetrated your skin deeply enough. Once rinsed, your skin feels soft and supple (not what you generally expect from a soap bar) and appears more and more healthy after every wash going forward.

What I was genuinely impressed with when using the bar was the longevity of the product. You get 100g of product which will easily last you 3 months. As well as this, you receive a resealable bag to keep the soap in which makes it perfect for post-vaccine travelling. What’s more, Carbon Theory has introduced an option where you can now purchase the cleansing bar in a recyclable paper refill pack to aid with reducing plastic consumption, which is something, I think, is vital in our ‘green’ revolution.

Overall, I will go as far as to say that the Carbon Theory Cleansing Bar is one of my favourite and most enjoyable cleansers. I think that its simplicity -a no-frills approach -the pairing of a minimal number of ingredients with natural efficacy, works at clearing up my skin, reducing oiliness and generally evening out my complexion. On a practical note, buy this product, you honestly will not regret it!

Carbon Theory’s Cleansing Bar retails for £6 and is available to purchase on Beauty Bay, Boots and Asos.
